Contemporary Christian artist Kris Ballerini doesn’t always listen well. Blessed with many gifts and talents, that include being an effective communicator, expressing herself thoughtfully through writing, having a voice that is compared often to many mainstream artists, the gift of HEARING with her heart, mind and ears doesn’t come easily.
“All my life’s trials as well as the joys seemed to be disjointed for so many years. I had a restless spirit because I hadn’t relied on my faith at all. I thought that as long as I kept moving, I’d eventually win the race. What I failed to realize was by not putting God and Jesus first, I had lost sight of all the blessings in my life.”
Married for sixteen years, with two daughters on the verge of adolescence and tired of society’s spin on what happiness should be, she tapped back into a childhood love for music. Armed with a powerful voice and a natural sense for song structure, Kris began actively achieving a career as a professional demo vocalist, award-winning songwriter, and a voiceover talent in the Philadelphia, Pa area.
Working through the trials of being a young wife and mother in addition to not being raised in the church, Kris was astonished to see that God could be worshipped in a new and modern way when friends of her family invited them to worship at their own church.
“We drove every Sunday for an hour each way to attend this church. Our family did a lot of healing, connecting and loving in that sanctuary. We really slowed down our lifestyle and re-prioritized ourselves.”
Kris realized her true calling was writing and performing music in the Contemporary Christian genre when she heard the music of Jennifer Knapp and Nicole Nordeman. “I felt a calling to that kind of music. I connected with it, I lived it, I loved it!”
Once fully committed to performing and writing this style of music, real life miracles began to take place.
Recently, Kris was named First Runner-Up in the NARAS (Grammy people) Gospel Pitch A Thon for her song, “Personal Savior” which was co-written with Bill Dee. That same song, also received Honorable Mention in the Billboard Songwriting Contest as well as placed 4th overall in the Gospel/Christian category in the Great American Song Contest.
Kris started listening and more importantly obeying what God laid out for her as His plan and is grateful everyday that she did.
Now do you trust the voice you hear? You might want to. Kris has a powerful testimony for women and their teenaged daughters.
